History

In the year 1930, the Reverend Cullen F. Deckert, O.M.I Assistant at Immaculate conception church obtained permission to celebrate Mass in the community Hall of Kensington additional . this was the beginning of Queen of peace parish In 1936, two lost donated by Edmundson on the corner of telephone and Craigmont, were give to be used for a church. materials from the old Immaculate Conception Church we used reverend Joseph laux, O.M.I, the Queen of Peace Chapel was erected and blessed by the most reverend C.E Byrne , Bishop of Galveston-Houston, on January 17,1937

 Queen of Peace Parish was formed on July 5,1942 with the Reverend Marcel C. Notzon appointed as its first pastor , In September of that year , a lo and houses were purchased and used as the rectory . In 1944 , four acres of land were purchased .In 1947 Queen of peace Catholic School , with classroom a library and an office was built . the school opened on Monday ,September 8, 1947 with 105 students in grade one to eight. four more classroom were added in 1949 and in 1955 another four classrooms were added. the Dominican sisters were the first to staff the school , with Sr. Loretta Raphael serving as the first principal.

 Since its inception Queen of Peace Catholic School has faced a myriad of victories as well as struggles. In the 1980’s the school experienced a severe decline in enrollment and was faced with the possibility of closure. In 1999, the Companions of the Cross were assigned to Queen of Peace Parish and School . Fr. Christian Riesbeck CC, a passionate pastor and advocate for Catholic education was determined to bolster the school and make it a vital parish ministry available to the local community. years of refinishing the facility, ministering to families, and upgrading the educational environment helped increase enrollment in the early 2000’s. In 2012 Fr. Michael Minifie ,a a true supporter of catholic educational became pastor and led the school though the implementation of the transformation model which has assisted in helping the school gain a better financial position.
